About My Approach
As a qualified clinical psychologist, I work with children, adolescents, and adults, drawing on a psychodynamic approach while adopting an integrative perspective. This approach combines different schools of psychological thought to address each individual’s specific needs and unique characteristics.
What Is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is defined as a method aimed at alleviating and treating psychological distress primarily through psychological means (according to the Dictionary of Psychology). Psychodynamic psychotherapies focus on understanding psychological difficulties in relation to present or past events, as well as to the individual’s personal and family history.
This approach considers the conscious and unconscious dynamics that influence psychological functioning. The therapeutic relationship, built on trust and compassionate listening, is a fundamental pillar of this process. The aim is to facilitate the expression of emotions and thoughts, explore the underlying sources of distress, and support the changes needed to achieve greater well-being.
Objectives of Psychodynamic Therapy:
Psychodynamic therapies aim to:
- Encourage the verbal expression of repressed thoughts and emotions;
- Change the way individuals perceive their distress and symptoms;
- Foster greater self-understanding;
- Support beneficial inner changes that promote personal growth and fulfilment.
To achieve these objectives, several methods are used, including:
- Increasing Awareness: Recognising unconscious patterns that influence our behaviours and thoughts.
- Structured Reflection: Encouraging the analysis and understanding of emotions and personal experiences.
- Constructive Distancing: Learning to observe thoughts and emotions with greater perspective, in order to manage them in a healthier and more constructive way.
My Areas of Specialisation:
- Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychopathology: Behavioural difficulties, anxiety, depression, attachment disorders, and more.
- Parental Guidance: Supporting parents in managing parenting challenges and relational difficulties with their children.
- Relationship and Communication Difficulties: Conflict management, communication challenges, and the development of emotional intelligence.
- Couple and Family Difficulties: Supporting couples in crisis and providing family therapy to improve relationship dynamics.
Therapeutic Tools and Techniques:
Depending on the progress of therapy and the needs identified, I may suggest a range of tools and techniques to enrich our therapeutic work:
- Psychological Assessment: The use of personality tests and psychodynamic, projective, or psychometric assessments to gain a deeper understanding of underlying psychological dynamics.
- In-Depth Exploratory Techniques: Techniques such as dream analysis, free association, art therapy, and psychodrama to explore the unconscious dimensions of the psyche more deeply.
- Mindfulness: A meditation practice used to help us stay grounded in the present moment, calm the mind, and learn to accept emotions without judgment.
- Life Planning: Particularly suited to adolescents, young adults, and retirees, this approach helps individuals envision a future aligned with their values and aspirations, supporting more meaningful and fulfilling life choices.
- Career Guidance: For those reflecting on their career path, we will work together to clarify your strengths, aspirations, and professional options in line with your core values.
